Candidates Letter of Intent:
Unto the Barony of Illiton & Their Royal Majesties,
It is with great honor that We, Robert Thorne and Nessa von Metten submit our names as candidates for Baron and Baroness of Illiton. Robert has been with Illiton for over 25 years and Nessa has been with the Barony for about 10 years. We have both grown so much in that time frame. Illiton has become our family and it would be an honor to give back and serve in this capacity.
Robert has served the society numerously throughout the last 25 years, but most notably he is a charter member of the Baronial Archery Guild: Oaken Arrow Archers. He has served as Baronial Archery Marshal for approximately 10 years and is the current Baronial Signet. Most recently he served as the Kingdom Thrown Weapons Marshal. During the implantation of the online service portal, Robert served as Kingdom Marshal in Thrown Weapons and Archery to make for a smooth transition. Nessa has served in several different roles in the past 8 years, including becoming an archery marshal when Illiton was in need. Together we have served the Barony in multiple capacities at events and demos. Whether on the range, in the kitchen, working with children or behind the scenes, we have a reputation for assisting not only the barony, but the Middle Kingdom as needs arise. We frequently go to events throughout the kingdom and the known world. Throughout our travels, we have met many wonderful people, and have a working relationship with several of the baronial heads throughout the Midlands.
As a couple we have worked through much adversity to become a united team. As you know, we have 3 children. We believe representing the Barony in this capacity will be an amazing opportunity for them to witness. They will learn early on the rewards and sacrifices one makes when in a leadership role. They are growing up in Illiton and we hope to use the journey to teach them to be future leaders within the society.
Our goals for a potential reign would include facilitating growth within the group. We want to continue to help enable the growth between members as we transition back to an in-person setting as restrictions lift. We’d like to open our home for brunch monthly and encourage group outings. We would like to promote the arts and sciences by honoring members and their skills. We’d like to reinstitute regular A&S meetings online and invite other groups to teach and participate until members can congregate. We have a long history of exemplary service and creativity which we are most proud of, and would like to be advocate that to the Crown. We would also like to see quantifiable growth within Illiton by welcoming new ideas and finding new opportunities to reach the masses including participating in parades and public gaming sessions. We think there are individuals and households that would love to participate in a medieval experience, not to mention the level of connection our group has. We would like to believe having a couple with children in this role may be enticing to other families.
The transition of our hobby from an ethereal presence to a physical one will take a gentle heart and a respectful mind. Our qualities and experiences as individuals within the society as well as professionally will create a high functioning team. The Barony of Illiton has a legacy of strong and graceful leaders. We hope to learn from them to continue the traditions while progressing us into the future. We love all of you and ready to take care of the family.

The Crown of the Middle Kingdom wishes the widest possible counsel on matters relating to the Kingdom; thus, it is requested that all members respond to this baronial poll for the Barony of Illiton.
All baronial residents should please complete the poll located at this Link: RESIDENT
A resident is defined as a person who lives within the geographic boundaries of the barony regardless of Society membership status. Please check with your Baronial Seneschal or on the Middle Kingdom website if you are unsure of your group’s geographic area.
